History

Founded in 2015, Danum Advisors began as a portfolio management company, with an investment philosophy based on systems thinking, future scenario reasoning, and the ability to identify long-term, structural changes.

In 2021, Danum Advisors made biodiversity the central focus of its work, introducing a mission to support and accelerate the transition to a world that is biodiversity-positive.

At the end of 2024, it was decided to focus on advisory services. Staying true to the mission, and firmly believing that a transition to a nature positive business model is a broad based strategic opportunity, Danum Advisors aims to assist likeminded companies and investors in achieving their goals .

Name

Our name is inspired by the Danum Valley rainforest in Borneo, one of the world’s most complex natural ecosystems. There, we observed how hornbills are often the first to find a fig tree with ripe fruit, signaling other species to follow. Over time, through a chain of interactions, this process attracts more than 200 species.

This inspired us to view the economy as a network of corporate ecosystems, where combining different signals helps identify transformational and structural changes. In turn, these changes are opportunities that will attract companies and investors. This ecosystem-based approach to systems thinking is a capability we still embrace today.
